Who Misses High School?

I do!

As I was going through my stuff, searching for work at MAC, I found this envelope.

It was full of letters for my retreat during our 4th year of high school. It was so long ago, that I actually forgot this envelope ever existed. As I opened it and saw letters from dear friends, I started remembering all the experiences of my high school days.

These were letters given by my batchmates, my friends, and even acquaintances from other batches. It was overwhelming indeed.

I remembered how simple life was compared to today. I wouldn't say high school was worry free for me. It was a tough time having to go through teenage years. Luckily, I had friends and my family as backbone to help me go through with all of it. I can't help but open several letters and read them. I read some letters that really struck me. Boys, friends, even batchmates I wasn't that close with. I began to wonder, did they really write me just because they felt they needed to or did they write me because they wanted to?

As I opened letters, giggles and laughter turned to tears. I was overwhelmed with the letters. One of which from a dear friend sharing her feelings about having me as a friend. The other, telling me how she misses our old ways. Another was thanking me for not leaving her in times of trouble. The best part? I honestly forgot that O gave me a letter for my retreat. Knowing that O's not from our school, I forgot that he made an effort to write me. As I started reading the letter, I can't help the tears falling. O really molded me, and really helped bridge gaps between me and M. As I said, O is really an angel. As the letter progressed to being a "sermon", O stopped and shifted to his feelings. I kept on weeping as I read the letter knowing how our life is now. I realized how lucky I am to have such wonderful friends and family.

It hurts that some of my highschool friends I don't get to talk to anymore and get to see anymore. Years drifted us apart, busy lifestyle has also become a problem. And new friends came into play. I really miss high school. :| But I'm happy with what I've become. Because of high school, and the things I've learned about studies and life in general, I'm stronger and much wiser now. I do not regret anything that happened. Relationships, studies, (well maybe I should have studied better, but that's beside the point :p). I am what I am now because of how high school has made me. I'm me because of the experiences life has taught me. And I am grateful.

Never a Night

*This is from a friend for the one that he deeply and truly love...

Never a night were my eyes so dry

The thought of understanding just never goes by

How long do you plan on acting this way?

Uncaring, unjust, unthoughtful words you say

I have tried to change but still not enough

You know your at fault but why still so tough?

All I ask is a simple conversation

Your voice through my head to purify my vision

This vision is black, red, all wasted in tears

No such purity, love, this emotions I fear

Why cant you let go, why can’t you just see?

My love surrounding you, so pure and so free

It’s never to late, a vow that was kept

For the love of my life, for the girl that I wept

So grab my hand, hold it nice and tight

And I promise my love, you will sleep good all night

-tsk2

*i hope things would be better for both of them... i hope her mind will clear up soon, so that she wont make any decisions she might regret later on... hoping for the best!

Pepper Lunch

O and I love to eat and try new food, but we like different dishes. O loves Chinese food, while I am an Italian and Japanese craver! But there still are some restaurants that we like to dine in again and again. One of which is Pepper Lunch.

I was introduced to Pepper Lunch by fellow bloggers Phoebe and Sophie. I've seen their reviews and they got me really curious. At first O and I were both skeptical since we have already tried something similar -e---- -t--k in Trinoma. We were not satisfied and never went back. We left that restau still feeling hungry and the restau smelled like smoke! So when I told O that I wanted to try Pepper Lunch, at first he was hesitant. Then came a night when we finally went and tried it. I honestly loved the place, I like the interiors and the fact that they reserve a table for you while ordering. I wasn't able to take much photos from that first experience though.

So the second time, I did. I forgot to bring my point-and-shoot camera, so I had to use my camera phone instead. So I apologize for the blurry and low quality photos.

I ordered the Beef Curry Rice. (I had to mix it before I took this photo. My bad!)

O ordered his combo of Hamburger and Beef. The rice was served in a separate bowl.

These are served in a hot plate, and the waiter will ask you to cook the meat first (by flipping it over), then mix with the rice or other ingredients, and finally choose the sauce/condiments you want to add.

After munching a couple of spoonfuls, here are our food.

Mine Mine Mine!

O's

The Beef Curry Rice was uber-delicious. I didn't have to put much sauce anymore, since the meal was already full of flavor. I love the peppery taste it gives. The beef was so yummy, it was very tender. I love the curry rice, it complements the sweet sauce of the meal. I had my beef doubled so the serving was great as well, it was very filling. We didn't have to buy extra appetizers or dessert anymore.

The Hamburger and Beef combo (I'm not sure if this is what it's called), it was really really filling! O ordered this before and again ordered the same meal. The hamburger was juicy!!! It was great! The beef, I think it's the same beef as mine, so of course, it was good. What I didn't like though was the beansprouts. I don't eat beansprouts, so I had to remove them one by one.

For non-meat lovers, I'm not quite sure if they'll enjoy this place. O and I even talked and said that older people who are health conscious might not like this. Since you can already see the oil once you're about to finish your meal. They might not like the fact that it's oily. As seen in the picture above. Boohoo. :(

Overall, I love this place. Though it's a little pricey for the budget conscious ones, one meal with rice and drinks cost P200-600 depending on the meat (i.e. chicken, pork, beef, wagyu, salmon). But it's definitely worth a try! And if you'll be spending on food, Pepper Lunch is worth it. Maybe once a month? It's not so bad. The staff are also friendly, the seats are comfortable, it's located in a mall, it really is a must-try!

Must Love Specialty Dog/Cat Shops!

Stilettos to Sweets talks to the young entrepreneur who has pioneered doggie day care in the Philippines, Mr. Oliver Tan.

First of all, congratulations on your new project, the second branch of Pooch Park! And thank you very much for agreeing to be featured in Stilettos to Sweets!

It's a pleasure! Thank you also for featuring Pooch Park.

Can you tell us what exactly is Pooch Park?
Pooch Park is a dog and cat day care and boarding facility. We also provide professional grooming services, basic obedience training, funeral services, pet supplies, and more!

How did you start it? Was it a need that you felt you needed to address?
It started with a need. The need for a place to
leave my dogs somewhere for a couple of hours when I bring them and I have to do errands. Then from the day care idea, other services soon followed.

The first shop is in Julia Vargas, I know that it's not inside a mall, was it difficult to attract clients?
It is very difficult to attract clients in the beginning. However, through consistent high quality products and services, we were
able to maintain our high customer retention rate and customer referrals.

How does it feel that you have already opened up your second branch?
It really feels good. It is hard but it is very challenging, exciting, and fulfilling opening my second branch.
It's really a dream come true.

You are a breeder of Miniature Schnauzers, do you still breed until now?
Yes I still breed Miniature Schnauzers. However, I only breed once a year
to maintain and safe guard the health of the mom and pups.

Back to Pooch Park, the Metro East branch is actually bigger than J Vargas, and you finally have a vet clinic. Why so?
Pooch Park drives to provide solu
tions to customer needs. Therefore, we aim to be a one stop shop for all your dog and cat needs. I've really wanted to have a vet clinic for the longest time, but the first branch doesn't have enough space for it. So when I opened the Metro East branch, I made sure to include it in our services.

Pooch Park is known for the quality of products, services and how you treat your clients, both humans and animals, what are we suppose to expect from the second branch of Pooch Park?
Customers can expect the same high quality of products and s
ervices. We always give very high importance to your pet's health and care. Customers are also assured that Pooch Park will continue to innovate and improve its products and services to further share love and care to animals and at the same time provide services to pet owners.

What can you suggest to dog owners who are a bit hesitant to bring their dog to specialty stores like you?
Please do not hesitate to approach Pooch Park. We treat customers as our friends and their pets like our very own. Also, our products and services are reasonable priced.

What tips can you give to people who would like to purchase their very o
wn pet?
For first time pet owner
s, research on the breed that you're interested in. Every breed has different characteristics. These characteristics must suit your lifestyle. For example, a lolo or lola would not like a siberian husky that needs lots of exercise. An active person who wants to take his or her pet to hikings or trekkings would not like a shihtzu for those activities.

Any last words to your current and future clients?
I want to thank all our supporters, our clients, for believing and supporting Pooch Park. It has been a wonderful 2 years. They make us want to attain more so we become better. To those who are still curious and are interested in what Pooch Park is, I would like to invite you in behalf of the staff of Pooch Park to visit us in any of our two branches. It's worth the travel, and rest assured we will treat your dog
s and cats with utmost care.

Cleansing Oil Challenge!

I own two cleansing oils. I have Skin Hour Deep Cleansing Oil and --i--t- Honey Cleansing Oil. So one night, after a tiring day of makeup gig for a photo shoot, I had to clean all my brushes and containers.

I always make sure that I take care of my brushes by giving them a bath after using them. I used a lot of liquid foundation that day, I got my container (where I put and mix my liquid foundie) and experimented and tested the cleansing oils. I normally use a mild soap for my brushes and containers, however, we all know that it will be difficult and close to impossible to remove liquid foundation with it. So here goes the challenge.

This is the container. As you see, the liquid foundie has already dried up.

These are the 2 cleansing oils that are up for the challenge.

First, I tried using --i--t- Cleansing Oil. I scrubbed really well.

Here is the result. The liquid foundie just spread out but it's still there.

Now, I tried using Skin Hour Deep Cleansing Oil. I used the same container. And again scrubbed well.

Here is the result. Tada! Clean clean container!

The verdict: Skin Hour Deep Cleansing Oil wins!!! :D So I used this for my baby brushes also!

However...

The Cleansing Oil of --i--t-, even though it can't clean liquid foundies, can be used to clean eyeshadows and blushes (mostly powder). This is what I used for my other containers that I just used to foil my shadows. It is also foamier. So when used on the face gives a soapy texture.

So I still have the two until now. Although of course, I use Skin Hour's more often. It shows how organic products are really magical! :) Imagine what these two do for your face when you use them as cleansers. :) Skin Hour proves that it deeply cleanses but is still mild and refreshing!

Who am I?

What does define us? Quite philosophical indeed. Is it the number of friends we have, the crazy acts we commit, our sexuality, our hopes and dreams... Coco finds out, or does she?

Shanghai Baby by Wei Hui

Shanghai Baby tells about Coco, your modern day Shanghainese woman - smart, sexy, liberated. She lives together with her boyfriend Tian Tian, a moody artist who got addicted to drugs and is sexually challenged. While Coco loves Tian Tian very much, she holds a secret affair with Mark, a German expat, to satisfy her sexual cravings.

After her much celebrated collection of poems - Shriek of the Butterfly, Coco struggles to finish her novel, with much prodding from Tian Tian. She is quite popular in Shanghai for her liberal feminist thoughts, especially in Fudan U where she graduated.

Together with her friends Ah Dick, Madonna and cousin Zhu Sha, Coco goes about town, partying one night, flying to Shanghai on a whim and flirting with bisexuals and lesbians - a typical day like any other.

The book is not a page-turner if that's what you're looking for. But it catches your attention with its fresh liberal take on China - a nation once wrapped under a strict conventional culture. Sex, drugs, cheating - taboo issues which the novel openly explored. No surprise that the book was "banned and burned in China" according to the book's back cover.

Aside from the sexual descriptions in the novel (of Coco and Mark usually), one's sexuality was also covered. The novel contained characters who were gay, bisexuals and lesbians. An unforgettable scene was when Coco kissed Shamir, a lesbian while Mark watched from a distance.

Why Coco loves Tian Tian very much puzzles me. Perhaps it's the stability that Tian Tian offers. He's always there for her. Like Yin to Coco's Yang. But she couldn't leave Mark - with what he CAN offer her. Tian Tian is quite dependent on Coco. He must had an inkling that she was cheating on her since he kept telling her to not leave him...

The presenting page-turner here is, at the middle of the book, it is mentioned that "when Tian Tian was gone". You read on.

Yes, Tian Tian died in the end. Of overdose. And Mark went back to Germany. With that, Shanghai Baby's last words were "Who am I?"

San Tsa / Haw Flakes

Time to share one of my favorite addictions. I'm currently craving for it, so I decided why not share with our readers what it is...

Tada... It's San Tsa or also known as Haw Flakes! These are Chinese snacks. You eat it when you're bored, when you're hungry, when you're watching tv, when you're blogging, actually... you eat it anytime of day!

O actually bought this for me since I really really love Haw Flakes! This is from Bee Tin Grocery and is only P55.00. There are ten packs in one bag.

One pack looks like this... How does it taste? I can't quite describe it. It tastes sour and sweet at the same time. For some people, it tastes weird. Haha! But I like it!!!

It looks like the "Body of Christ". I remember playing with it before, like I was going to communion. It's very thin and it breaks when you put pressure to it. I love breaking it inside my mouth. Hehe! Love it!

It's so yummy and very very addicting! I can finish one whole pack in one seating, or maybe two packs?! :p

Thought on the product: Isn't it obvious I love love love it? I just want to share that this brand is the best! Usually you see the small Haw Flakes in supermarkets, it's actually okay, but my problem with it is it's so small, that I can already finish one pack with one chew! The latter Haw Flake is really small so it's very "nakakabitin"! And when I eat my Haw Flakes, I always like eating it by two's or maybe three's. I love it when it's thick! Hehe! :D How about you?

Trusting in My Lord, My Guide

People see me as someone who is bubbly, carefree and has strong personality. That is so true, but what a lot don’t know is that deep inside this strong girl lies a vulnerable self. Yes, I do get tired, crushed, frustrated, and offended. I am not immune to all of these things.

An event took place in my life that shook my faith in God. Some people whom I trust started to talk behind my back. When I found out about this, I became emotionally unstable. First thing I asked myself is what wrong could I have done for them to do this to me. Perhaps many are like that, seeming to find pleasure in talking about other people and forgetting that they may have already hurt someone in the process. Taking revenge also came across my mind, but I know better, I’m not that kind of person. It would only continue the cycle if I took revenge.

My faith saved me from doing something bad and from the desperate situation I found myself in. This is one of the hardest trials I have ever faced. It’s good that God blessed me with good friends who never left me during those times. These friends shared me their strength so I can move on with my life. My friends reminded me that I don’t have to please everyone, and to just do what is right. They also showed me that I have God who won’t leave me in the dark. During those times, my only prayer to Him was “Lord, please be my guide.” I repeatedly say this simple prayer before I went to sleep.

Now, I am not that affected by this issue anymore. But I admit that sometimes I still remember what happened and I can’t stop the pain from coming back. Whenever this happens, I just close my eyes and say that simple prayer “Lord, please be my guide.” I trust in Him and I believe things will heal over time.

Where do you put your trust in?

Elianto Baked Shadow

I got an Elianto Baked Shadow in Marble Blue and I'm loving the color! I actually really like Elianto shadows. It's not as expensive as other brands but you get a wonderful color. I have a whole palette which I got for my Makeup school before. I'll be reviewing and sharing it next time. :) It's already a bit messy though, hehe!

Anyway, here is the Elianto baked shadow.

When opened...

Here is the swatch (with my Suesh brush)

Now for a little tut... my eyes again (I took this photo 8pm, so again droopy eyes :p)

For a daytime look, I just started with an offwhite Elianto eye shadow and used it on the entire lid and created an outer v using the Elianto baked shadow.

Here's how it looks like after putting Elianto shadow in gold as midtone.

Finish off with Winc Instant Lash Duo mascara.

If you want to make it more dramatic, maybe for an evening date? I simply put more color on top of the offwhite shadow and I used Fashion 21 liquid eyeliner in Black but made the line thin.

When closed...

Make sure that the eyes are always smiling... *secret to looking young! :p

How about an avant garde look using the Elianto baked shadow in Marble Blue? I used the offwhite eyeshadow and spread it under the eye and added more above the blue shadow. I used the blue shadow for my brows and pulled it to the side for a more dramatic effect. What's the black line? It's Elianto black eyeshadow. I simply used an eyeliner brush for this.

Raaawwwrrr!!!

Thoughts on the product: I love this product! :D The color's great! It has a little sparkle. And as seen on the photos above, it's very versatile. You can use it for different looks. :) I still have to see the other color availables if I'm going to purchase again. But I really really like this blue. You can use the dark blue color only, or the light blue. Or like what I did, combining it by swirling the brush to get both colors.

Planning A Wedding Hassle Free!

Stilettos to Sweets presents Ai Acosta, a wedding planner shares her thoughts and tips on weddings, planning, and a whole lot more!

How long have you been in the events planning industry?

4 years last May.

What made you decide to start your own company?

I was getting married that year so I needed enough time to fix my wedding. My bestfriend also offered to open the business with me so I resigned from my job and everything started from there.

Before being an events planner, what were you doing?
I was with Robinsons Malls, as Sponsorship officer of the Ad and Promo Department.

What or who were your inspirations?

I think the idea of weddings and every highs and lows that comes with the preparations are what continuously inspires me to stay in the business.

What is your most favorite event to plan?

Weddings.

It seems like a lot of people are getting married nowadays, I was just wondering, how many weddings have you handled to date?

To date, maybe 70 weddings. I don't do a lot. I try to limit it to a maximum of 3 in a month just so I still have enough time and energy to really manage the details.

Does planning a wedding really entail hardwork?

Yes it does. Especially nowadays that there are so many add-on details or new ideas that come up which makes it really more tedious for the couple.

Usually, why do couples get an events planner?

They normally get "on-the-day" coordination to make sure all the details are executed the way they want it. It's wise to get a coordinator so the couple can truly enjoy their party because someone is there to take care of the back end. Sometimes, they also get the recommendations of the coordinators in terms of the suppliers they can book.

Do you always get along well with your clients?
Haha... so far, yes. Even with their families. :) I am lucky to have had couples who are fun to be with. So it's not much of an effort to keep the mood light so we actually enjoy the coordination process.

What was one of your most favorite weddings and why?

Probably my Cauton-Hernandez (Baguio) wedding...which was my first (and most likely my last - for Baguio) Out-of-town wedding. It taught me a lot. I consider it a great accomplishment.

What happens during the "planning" stage?

For OTD coordination, it is assumed that almost 90% of the suppliers have been booked. When I come in, which is 1-2 months before the wedding day, the couple turns over the contracts to me. There will be a series of meetings and phone calls to finalize the details.

What is your most favorite thing about planning an event?

I like the creative part... like helping the couple create a certain look and feel for their wedding. But I'm not a stylist ah.

How about your least favorite?

When couples constantly change their minds and defy their own rules. But of course, I can't complain. :)

There are so many events planner whether freelance or companies right now, what do you think sets you apart?

Hmmmm... I really don't know. I think my relationship with my clients is very personal so the kind of service I give is personal. I am ready to put in extra effort to get the job done.

What are your plans for the future?

Honestly, I am contemplating on studying Hair and Makeup and keeping wedding coordination bookings to a maximum of 2 a month.

What advise can you give to people who are aspiring to be an events planner (like me *hint hint* :p)?

When going gets tough, just look back to why you went into the business in the first place. And to take each wedding as a learning experience. Because I've been in the business for 4 years, but every time, I learn something new, and I embrace that opportunity.

Finally, what tips can you give couples who are about to get married?

Stick to your budget! Hehe! I always find myself the devil's advocate when my couples overspend on details that in my opinion can be discarded.

Fanny Serrano Lip Palette

One of my favorite lip palettes, affordable and pigmented- Fanny Serrano. They have two palettes, one is for warm tones and the other for cooler. I have the warm palette. I actually got this palette for school back when I was taking up my Makeup course.

I'd like to show you how we can achieve a "pouty red lips" by using this palette and some basic lip products.

Here is the photo of the Fanny Serrano warm lip palette.

When opened...

My nude lips. I applied Kiss Kiss Balm Balm lip balm.

Then I apply lip pencil. I used Clinique Chubby Stick in Vanilla Brownie. This will even make the lipstick last longer. Don't put lipliner on the entire lips. Leave four spaces on each side.

Then put concealer or foundation on those four spaces. This is the secret to pouty lips! :p I used Max Factor cream foundation.

Next is to follow with lipstick. From the lip palette, I used the red color; coz I'd like to achieve the infamous "red lips".

The result, tada....

Thoughts on the product: I love love love this Fanny Serrano lip palette. It has a wide variety of color and it's perfect for Asian skin, generally that is. Since most of us have warm skin tone. I love all the colors, and what I do is I mix them too. I use this for myself and for my clients. I even used the gold color for one of my male models before! Haha! This is definitely a great great find! :)
